Elephant Safari
Take an exclusive safari on the elephant back through the lush trails of
famous Corbett Tiger Reserve. It is India's first and perhaps the finest
Tiger Reserve. Set beautifully in the foothills of mighty Himalayas, Corbett
Tiger Reserve is spread over in the area of 1200 square km. The park has
the surroundings of dense Sal forests and hilly ravines, which makes the
whole tour all the more exciting. Elephant Safari in Corbett National Park
is the best combination of multiple ways to take the tour of wildlife. The
main attraction of the tour is to ride on the pachyderm for the whole week.
The Elephant Safari begins from north east periphery of the Corbett tiger
reserve from Durgadevi gate. It will continue along with the north boundary
and end up at Halduparao on the north-west boundary of the park. Apart from
traveling on the back of elephant, your safari will include multiple exciting
activities. They will be game drives in the Corbett national park, bird
watching tours, village visits, visits to tribes in nearby area, learning
how to ride on elephant to name a few of exciting activities. Your journey
at the elephant back will begin as you will enter the Ramganga valley. Onwards
crossing the Mandal valley, it will cover some of the varied tracks of forest.
The journey will end in the gorgeous forest rest house at Halduparao in
Palain Valley. The wildlife that you will see from the elephant back would
also differ as you will go through different terrains. You will be able
to see some mammal species such as Elephant, Barking deer, Spotted deer,
Ghoral, Sambar, Rhesus monkey, Wild boar, Jackal, Porcupine, Langur, Civets
and more.
The Rare animals that you will see on your elephant safari ones comprise
of Leopard, Bengal Tiger, Cats, Sloth Hog, Deer and Himalayan black bear.
The Gharial, Mugger or fresh water crocodile, turtles, Otters and a great
range of fishes like, Goonch, Mahseer, Trout, etc. are seen in and around
Ram Ganga River. The reptile species comprising of King Cobra, Monitor Lizard,
Python and more.
The airborne species, the mystic wildlife and the charming valley make a
beautiful blend together and offer you a romance setting unheard, unseen
and untold before. Corbett Tiger Reserve is also a bird watching paradise.
Its Avian attractions include great breeds of Hornbills Parakeets, Woodpeckers,
Kingfishers, Shrikes, Barbets, Minivets, Partridge, Drongos, Storks and
many other beautiful birds.
Tour Plan for Nine Days and Eight Nights - November to April
Day 1: Reach to Corbett Camp
Leave Delhi early in the morning. Come to the Corbett Camp by afternoon.
Your evening walk to the bordering lush forest and riverside will let you
experience the beautiful flora and fauna of Corbett Camp. Return to the
camp by sunset for barbecue campfire. Come for Dinner and relax overnight
at Camp.
Day 2: Corbett Camp to Lohachaur
Early morning reach to the Durgadevi gate through a jeep drive from Camp.
Now you will enter the Corbett tiger reserve on the Elephant back. This
exclusive safari will take you through the complete stretch of nearly 16
Kms through Ramganga valley to Lohachaur. It is actually a forest rest house
of bygone era. It was built in early 1900's. On the way, you will pass through
some of the best patches of moist fern laden sub tropical jungles. You can
expect here to have an encounter with the great variety of wildlife. Take
your lunch served to you at Domunda. It is the meeting point of the mighty
rivers Ramganga and Mandal. After lunch, you will trek up to the Mandal
valley to visit the hill tribe 'chunars'. This tribe will impress you with
their beautiful carving on the pots made out of wood. Come to Lohachaur
by the evening. Take overnight stay in the forest tents or rest house.
Day 3: Day Three Lohachaur to Kanda
Leave early in the morning along with Mandal River in the directionj of
maidavan chowki. Mandal River here is a part of north boundary of Corbett
tiger reserve. You're your breakfast on the route. After breakfast you will
travel through small villages and scraps of thick Sal forest. Reach to Maidavan
chowki. Here you will get your Lunch. After lunch, come to Kanda through
jeeps in the highest forest rest house of the Corbett Tiger reserve. The
view from Kanda is superb as it is on the height of about 1100 meters. Located
on the top of the ridge on the Shivalik range, Kanda can offer you breathtaking
view of Dhikala chaur and Ramganga reservoir. Stay overnight in the forest
rest house or tents.
Day 4: Kanda to Dhikala and back
Game drives early in the morning to the national park with breakfast
packed along with. Take your lunch at Dhikala. The evening game drives back
towards Kanda. Rest overnight in tents or forest rest house.
Day 5: Kanda to Mundiapani
Get up early in the morning and start your tour on jeeps to Rathuadhab forest
rest house. Here you will get to meet the Elephants and Mahouts. Take your
breakfast at Rathuadhab. Further on the tour you will take ride on the elephant
and reach to Mundiapani Forest Rest house. Take overnight stay in the forest
rest house.
Day 6: Mundiapani to Gujjar Dera or Palain Valley
Take early morning ride on the elephant towards Palain valley. Have
breakfast at the Vatanvasa gate. After breakfast you will proceed on upstream
by the side of the Palain River. Reach to the Gujjar dera by the time of
lunch. Rest of your afternoon will be spent with Gujjars. The Gujjars are
a semi nomadic tribe actually the most important tribe in the area. Rest
overnight at Gujjar dera in tents.
Day 7: Gujjar Dera to Haldupardao
Take early morning downstream ride on the elephant along the Palain River
towards the Haldupardao Forest rest house. Witness the pure Elephant country
and expect to see the elephant herds for sure besides other animals in your
tour ride. Reach to Haldupardao Forest rest house by afternoon. After lunch,
take a game drive to the Sonanadi wildlife sanctuary. This is a buffer sanctuary
to Corbett National Park. Have overnight rest in forest rest house or tents.
Day 8: Depart for Delhi
Get up at leisure in the morning. It is time for you to bid goodbye to the
exciting wildlife of Corbett national park, the elephants, Mahouts, Naturalist
and all the rest of the team. Leave for Delhi post breakfast with memories
to last all life. Take your packed lunch in your way. Come to Delhi through
Kotdwar by the evening time.
